UConn in the NBA: Summer League Day 1 Recap & Day 2 Preview

LAS VEGAS, NV – JULY 10: Tristen Newton #13 of the Minnesota Timberwolves drives to the basket during the game against the New Orleans Pelicans during the 2025 NBA Summer League game on July 10, 2025 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Three UConn men’s basketball alums hit the floor at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas: Tristen Newton with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Samson Johnson with the Indiana Pacers and Andre Jackson Jr. with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Tristen Newton

The 2024 NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player did not contribute much off the bench for the Timberwolves. The former Pacer only made one free throw and was 0-2 from the field with two rebounds and an assist in 13 minutes as Minnesota got past the New Orleans Pelicans 98-91.

Samson Johnson

We will have to wait a little longer to see Johnson make his NBA Summer League debut. In a 116-115 thrilling Pacers win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Johnson did not see the floor after signing with the reigning Eastern Conference champions as an undrafted free agent.

LAS VEGAS, NV – JULY 10: Cormac Ryan #29 of the Milwaukee Bucks is helped up by teammates during the game against the Denver Nuggets during the 2025 NBA Summer League game on July 10, 2025 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Andre Jackson Jr.

Jackson has been a key role player for the Bucks since entering the league in 2023. In his third season playing in the NBA Summer League, Jackson served as a veteran on a young roster. Jackson started and played 22 minutes, scoring six points on a perfect 2-2 from the field. Both of his shot attempts were from long range. In addition to his two triples, Jackson brought down five rebounds and dished out three assists as the Bucks beat the Denver Nuggets at the buzzer.
