Sunday Selections: 10/17/2021

Happy Sunday, everyone. I hope your Saturday contained lots of college football. Now get ready for more football as Week 6 of the 2021 NFL season is here. Week 6 includes an old rivalry between the Packers and the Bears, another London game, a rematch of last year’s AFC Divisional round, and a primetime game at Heinz Field. I’m eager to see who stands out this week and what will surprise us. Here are my picks for the NFL games today and tomorrow:

Miami Dolphins (1-4) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-5)

I tweeted this pick out. I did not feel like getting up early.

Green Bay Packers (4-1) (-5.5) at Chicago Bears (3-2)

With Aaron Rodgers leading the Packers to a strong start, I will not hesitate to take the Packers. The Bears have only won one out of the last ten games and has lost four straight to Green Bay.

Tune into Packers at 1 PM ET on FOX.

Cincinnati Bengals (3-2) (-3.5) at Detroit Lions (0-5)

The Bengals have won the past six games against the Lions. With how bad the Lions are this season, it seems almost too easy to take the Bengals. However, the Bengals are a little banged up, so watch out for that.

Tune into Bengals at Lions at 1 PM ET on FOX.

Houston Texans (1-4) at Indianapolis Colts (1-4) (-10.5)

The Colts have been slow to start this season, but things look up for them as they face division rival Texans. The Texans gave the Patriots a scare last week, so the Colts need to be careful with the secondary because Davis Mills can find the open receiver quickly. Colts win by three touchdowns.

Tune into Texans at Colts at 1 PM ET on CBS.

Los Angeles Rams (4-1) (-7.5) at New York Giants (1-4)

The Giants have won seven of the last nine matchups, but the Giants are significantly worse since their last win. With a depleted offense, the Rams defense will start to trend upwards, and the Rams blow out the Giants on the road.

Tune into Rams at Giants at 1 PM ET on FOX.

Kansas City Chiefs (2-3) (-6.5) at Washington Football Team (2-3)

The last time the Chiefs lost to Washington, the year was 1983! The Chiefs have had a surprisingly sluggish start, but I think they will finally start to get going as they face Washington. However, they should not get too confident. Remember what Taylor Heinicke did last year? He almost led them to a playoff win over the Chiefs. However, the streak continues, and Patrick Mahomes finally gets into his groove again.

Tune into Chiefs at Washington at 1 PM ET on CBS.

Minnesota Vikings (2-3) (-2.5) at Carolina Panthers (3-2)

The Panthers are without star running back Christian McCaffrey again, which lets rookie Chuba Hubbard start. Sam Darnold is only mediocre so far, but so is Kirk Cousins, so that works out. Vikings win due to their healthier team, especially with Dalvin Cook back.

Tune into Vikings at Panthers at 1 PM ET on FOX.

Los Angeles Chargers (4-1) at Baltimore Ravens (4-1) (-3)

The Chargers are in first place in the AFC West. Who would have thought? I thought the Chargers would be second, just behind the Chiefs in that division. Justin Herbert has been MVP level so far, but the Ravens are a difficult opponent. I don’t want to pick favorites for every game, plus I think the Chargers’ offense is too much for Baltimore. Chargers win by a field goal.

Tune into Chargers at Ravens at 1 PM ET on CBS.

Arizona Cardinals (5-0) at Cleveland Browns (3-2) (-3)

I’m surprised the Cardinals are underdogs when they have the better team, and they are healthier. The Browns’ injury report looks scary for them, so I am confident the Cardinals win big in Cleveland. The Cardinals have also won four straight against the Browns.

Tune into Cardinals at Browns at 4:05 PM ET on FOX.

Las Vegas Raiders (3-2) at Denver Broncos (3-2) (-5)

The Broncos are the favorites, probably because they are home, and their coach has resigned. The Raiders have the better roster, but the coaching problems help the Broncos win at home.

Tune into Raiders at Broncos at 4:25 PM ET on CBS.

Dallas Cowboys (4-1) (-3.5) at New England Patriots (2-3)

I’m a Patriots fan, but a good journalist has to be unbiased. The Cowboys’ offense is going to destroy the poor Patriots’ defense, especially in their secondary. If the Patriots are strong on offense, they can stay in this game. Overall, however, the Cowboys are a better team. However, the Cowboys have not won a game against New England since 1996, but Tom Brady has led the Patriots for their current six-game win streak against them.

Tune into Cowboys at Patriots at 4:25 PM ET on CBS.

Seattle Seahawks (2-3) at Pittsburgh Steelers (2-3) (-5)

The Seahawks are without Russell Wilson and Chris Carson, but the Steelers last won in 2011. Ben Roethlisberger has not been helping, so I think the Seahawks pull off the upset due to the bad quarterback play.

Tune into Seahawks at Steelers at 8:20 PM ET on NBC.

Buffalo Bills (4-1) (-5.5) at Tennessee Titans (3-2)

Josh Allen has been terrific, certainly up in the MVP conversation, but the Titans are at home, with Derrick Henry leading the way. The Bills are fully healthy and have won three of the last four games against the Titans. The Bills win in a close one in Nashville.

Tune into Bills at Titans at 8:15 PM ET on ESPN.
