Saturday Selections: 9/18/2021

Week 3 is here, and boy does it have a great schedule. First off, you can watch an old rivalry renewed as Oklahoma hosts Nebraska. Then you can watch Alabama travel to Gainesville to take on Florida. The primetime game is terrific too: a Penn State white-out against Auburn. If you want a late-night game to watch. BYU hosts Arizona State in a ranked matchup. Here are all of the picks I made for this Saturday:

South Carolina (2-0) at #2 Georgia (2-0) (-31.5)

The last time these two teams met, South Carolina upset Georgia in Athens. Because of that, Georgia will blow out South Carolina. The Bulldogs are one of the only invulnerable teams so far.

Tune into South Carolina at Georgia at 7 PM ET on ESPN.

Nebraska (2-1) at #3 Oklahoma (2-0) (-22.5)

The rivalry is renewed finally. Nebraska and Oklahoma were conference rivals for a long time, especially when both programs were fighting for the #1 spot in the AP Poll each year. However, Nebraska looks terrible and will be terrible in this game. It’s a home game for Oklahoma, which means an easy win.

Tune into Nebraska at Oklahoma at 12 PM ET on FOX.

Boston College (2-0) (-14.5) at Temple (1-1)

Boston College quarterback Phil Jurkovec is out for the year, which means the Eagles are set to be upset this weekend. BC is 29-7-2 against Temple, but I’ll give it to the Owls as they host Boston College.

Tune into Boston College at Temple at 12 PM ET on ESPNU.

Northwestern (1-1) (-2.5) at Duke (1-1)

Duke has not been a solid football team, while Northwestern was just in the Big Ten Championship last year. The Wildcats have won seven of the past ten games, and I think it’ll be eight of the past eleven.

Tune into Northwestern at Duke at 4 PM ET on ACC Network.

Utah (1-1) (-8) at San Diego State (2-0)

Utah has won five straight games against the Aztecs. With a brutal loss last week to arch-rival BYU, the Utes come into this game with a chip on their shoulder and win in California.

Tune into Utah at San Diego State at 7 PM ET on CBS Sports Network.

Utah State (2-0) at Air Force (2-0) (-9)

Air Force destroyed Navy in a rivalry game last week, which makes me feel good about picking them in this game. Expect a shootout, but Air Force pulls off the win at home.

Tune into Utah State at Air Force at 7:30 PM ET on Fox Sports 2.

Tulane (1-1) at #17 Ole Miss (2-0) (-14)

Tulane has the highest-scoring offense in the American Athletic Conference, including an offense that took Oklahoma seriously. The Green Wave hasn’t beaten a ranked opponent on the road since 1984. Matt Corral continues to impress me, and Ole Miss is one of my favorite teams to watch and cover this season. Rebels win at home, but closer than the experts think.

Tune into Tulane at Ole Miss at 8 PM ET on ESPN2.

USC (1-1) (-7.5) at Washington State (1-1)

USC lost to Stanford last week, which led to the firing of head coach Clay Helton. However, I think these events will make the Trojans come into this game with a chip on their shoulder. USC is 60-10-4 all-time against the Cougars, and I think the Trojans find a way to win this game. It’ll be interesting to see USC play without Clay Helton for once.

Tune into USC at Washington State at 3:30 PM ET on FOX.

Minnesota (1-1) at Colorado (1-1) (-2.5)

Minnesota has won 20 straight games against non-conference opponents, which is the longest active streak in the country. They last lost to TCU back in 2015. I was going to take Colorado, but Big Ten teams have shown lots of toughness, and I think Colorado will be upset by one point in Boulder.

Tune into Minnesota at Colorado at 1 PM ET on Pac-12 Network.

Nevada (2-0) (-1.5) at Kansas State (2-0)

Deuce Vaughn is playing well so far this season, but so is Carson Strong. Kansas State is 92-18 in regular-season non-conference games since 1990, which gives me hope that the Wildcats will get the job done in Manhattan. K-State wins by a safety, barely covering.

Tune into Nevada at Kansas State at 2 PM ET on ESPN+.

Mississippi State (2-0) (-3.5) at Memphis (2-0)

Memphis has not beaten Mississippi State since 1993. The Bulldogs are on a 12 game win streak against them. Memphis looks like a completely different program than the last time these two met (2011). Memphis will stick around for the entire game, but Mississippi State finds a way to win late.

Tune into Mississippi State at Memphis at 4 PM ET on ESPN2.

Florida State (0-2) at Wake Forest (2-0) (-4.5)

Florida State has a 30-7-1 record over Wake Forest. The Seminoles also have an 18-11 record for conference openers. However, they looked so bad last week, and the Notre Dame game looked like a fluke. Also, my entire family would hate me if I didn’t pick Wake Forest. Go Deacs.

Tune into Florida State at Wake Forest at 3:30 PM ET on ESPN.

Virginia (2-0) at #21 North Carolina (1-1) (-8)

Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong is the guy to watch for the Cavaliers, as he’s 5th in passing yards and tied for 4th in passing touchdowns. I’m going to ride the Sam Howell train for one more game because if he can’t pull off a good game against Virginia to lead the Tar Heels to a win, then I’ve lost hope in him. Even though Virginia has won four-in-a-row against North Carolina, give me Mack Brown and the Heels.

Tune into Virginia at North Carolina at 7:30 PM ET on ACC Network.

Purdue (2-0) at #12 Notre Dame (2-0) (-7.5)

Notre Dame may look vulnerable right now, but I think this week is where they shake off anything that happened the past two weeks. Notre Dame has won eight straight games against in-state foes, with the last loss coming in 2007 against Purdue. They’ve also won 25 straight games at home, which is the second-longest active streak in FBS. Jack Coan will look better this week, and the defense will look strong. Notre Dame covers and wins this game.

Tune into Purdue at Notre Dame at 2:30 PM ET on NBC.

Michigan State (2-0) at #24 Miami (FL) (1-1) (-6.5)

If I was on College Gameday, Michigan State would be my Super Dog. Michigan State isn’t getting enough love, they are a team heating up through Week 2. Kenneth Walker III looks like one of the best running backs in the country. Even though Miami holds a perfect 4-0 record against the Spartans, we just saw Oregon beat Ohio State for the first time last week. Michigan State wins on a Kenneth Walker touchdown.

Tune into Michigan State at Miami (FL) at 12 PM ET on ABC.

Oklahoma State (2-0) at Boise State (2-0) (-3)

I was going to go with Oklahoma State, but with Boise State’s home-field advantage and having the 5th best passing offense in FBS, I can’t turn that down. Boise State wins by a field goal on the blue turf.

Tune into Oklahoma State at Boise State at 9 PM ET on Fox Sports 1.

#15 Virginia Tech (2-0) at West Virginia (1-1) (-2.5)

West Virginia holds a 16-9 record in Morgantown against Virginia Tech, with a 28-23-1 record overall. Virginia Tech has won the last three matchups in the series. They’re going to make it four games in a row. The Hokies can get after opposing quarterbacks, so Jarret Doege better keep his awareness at 100. Virginia Tech will win the Black Diamond Trophy.

Tune into Virginia Tech at West Virginia at 12 PM ET on Fox Sports 1.

#8 Cincinnati (2-0) (-3.5) at Indiana (1-1)

Indiana hasn’t lived up to the hype that we expected before Labor Day Weekend. They’ll cover, especially because they lead the series 9-3-2. However, they’re not going to be able to defend Desmond Ridder. I’ll take the Bearcats.

Tune into Cincinnati at Indiana at 12 PM ET on ESPN.

#19 Arizona State (2-0) (-3.5) at #23 BYU (2-0)

I think the Utah win will have some hangover for BYU. That could be trouble for the Cougars as they host another ranked opponent in Arizona State. Like I said at the start of the season, BYU doesn’t have Zach Wilson anymore. Their new quarterback Jaren Hall looks good, but is he enough to beat this tough Arizona State team? Jayden Daniels is the player to watch, assuming this is the game he really puts his foot on the gas. The Sun Devils are 11-3 all-time against BYU. Give me Arizona State in a battle.

Tune into Arizona State at BYU at 10:15 PM ET on ESPN.

#1 Alabama (2-0) (-14.5) at #11 Florida (2-0)

Alabama is one of the only teams that haven’t shown any vulnerability. They’ve won seven straight against the Gators, with an 11-2 record in The Swamp. Bryce Young will have another game where he boosts his Heisman odds, and his top receiver John Metchie III will rack up over 100 yards and two touchdowns. Alabama wins by 21.

Tune into Alabama at Florida at 3:30 PM ET on CBS.

#22 Auburn (2-0) at #10 Penn State (2-0) (-5)

Penn State is having their traditional white-out game tonight as they face the Auburn Tigers that seem to be trending upwards. The Nittany Lions are 6-6 in white-out games, which is underwhelming for a great tradition. I would pick Auburn, but I can’t go against the best atmosphere in college football. Nittany Lions win by a field goal.

Tune into Auburn at Penn State at 7:30 PM ET on ABC.
