My College Basketball Top 25 – 2/15/21

Hi. I wanted to apologize for not posting a top 25 ranking last week. I was extremely busy with school and lost track of time. We now have less than four weeks until Selection Sunday. I could not be more excited. Here is my top 25 for this week:

  1. Gonzaga (20-0) Gonzaga would have to lose to not be number 1. They have two games left in the regular season and are on track to being undefeated for the entire season.
  2. Baylor (17-0) Baylor plays in the better conference, but are they better than Gonzaga? They have Oklahoma State, Iowa State, and Kansas left.
  3. Michigan (14-1) Michigan’s second half against Wisconsin was one of the best I’ve seen all season. This team is really special and seems like they picked up right where they left off.
  4. Ohio State (17-4) The Buckeyes are on a roll, blowing out a strong Indiana team on Saturday. They’ve won six straight.
  5. Illinois (14-5) Ayo Dosunmu is the best guard in college basketball. He saved the Fighting Illini from losing in overtime to Nebraska.
  6. Houston (17-2) Strength of schedule might be an issue for Houston when they play stronger teams in the NCAA Tournament.
  7. Virginia (15-3) I feel like the ACC is all over the place this year. Virginia is the best team in the conference. The Cavaliers haven’t lost in February yet.
  8. Oklahoma (13-5) The Sooners fought hard and beat West Virginia by one in double overtime. They could be a problem for other teams in March.
  9. Iowa (15-6) Joe Wisekamp doesn’t get talked about enough. He would be the best player on a lot of Power 5 teams. They got a great win against Rutgers.
  10. Alabama (17-5) Alabama had a weak schedule this week, but they are still a top 10 team. Nate Oats is a serious candidate for Coach of the Year.
  11. Creighton (16-5) Creighton proved they’re one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country, if not the best. What an outstanding blowout win against Villanova.
  12. Villanova (13-3) Villanova has a tough schedule for the rest of the season. They could not do anything against Creighton on Saturday.
  13. Texas Tech (14-6) The Red Raiders took a hit with a loss to West Virginia. They have back-to-back games against TCU on Tuesday and Wednesday.
  14. Texas (13-5) The Longhorns won both games this week after losing three straight.
  15. USC (17-3) Six straight wins for the Trojans. They have a tough schedule of games remaining for the regular season. Evan Mobley is the best player in the conference.
  16. Missouri (13-5) Missouri is struggling, so they need to bounce back this week. I still think Xavier Pinson is SEC Player of the Year.
  17. Arkansas (16-5) The Razorbacks have won six straight SEC games. Upsetting Missouri and winning six straight in the SEC deserves a top 25 vote.
  18. West Virginia (14-6) West Virginia may have lost to Oklahoma, but they picked up a win against Texas Tech on Tuesday. They’re still a tough team to beat.
  19. Tennessee (14-5) The Volunteers lost to LSU on Saturday. Time to step it up for the last four games.
  20. Florida State (11-3) Florida State beat Wake Forest in overtime, which is unacceptable. They can’t almost lose to teams in the bottom half of the ACC. The Seminoles have a tough week, playing Virginia and Virginia Tech.
  21. San Diego State (15-4) The Aztecs are back to being the best in the Mountain West. They play Fresno State and Boise State to end the season.
  22. Virginia Tech (14-4) Bad week for VT. The Hokies have to get it going this week during the last five games.
  23. Kansas (15-7) The Jayhawks broke their AP Top 25 streak and won three straight. That’s how you answer. However, two of the games were against Iowa State.
  24. Loyola Chicago (18-4) The Ramblers split back-to-back games against Drake. I’m not worried about them, but the Missouri Valley is interesting this year.
  25. Oregon (12-4) The Ducks have won three straight against both Arizona teams and Washington.
